Abby Hays and Tasha Pelfrey (Click image to enlarge)Congratulations to LBJ students Abby Hays and Tasha Pelfrey!  On Tuesday, January 19th, they were informed that they had been chosen as cyber reporters for the state STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) championship.  The event will be held on May 11th in Lexington at Rupp Arena.

Earlier in the school year, these two students had submitted writings and digital photos to a state selection committee.  Out of hundreds of applicants, only 40 were chosen as state cyber reporters.

Mr. Alonzo Fugate, LBJ’s STLP coordinator, was proud to learn of Abby and Tasha’s selection.  He stated, “I am very proud of these young ladies.  Each time that someone on our STLP group wins recognition, the entire team wins.  I am so thankful that Mr. Combs, our principal, and Mr. Turner, our superintendent, give the STLP team so much support.  The kids have a great time and learn a great deal about the importance of technology.”

At the event, the girls will get to write a news article about the happenings of the day, take digital photos, and upload their work to the state STLP website.

In order to show how proud they are of their school, STLP students have been making banners to hang in LBJ’s hallway that show the testing results.  This year, Zach Hall and Abby Hays worked with STLP coordinator Alonzo Fugate in order to create the banner.

When it was complete, the banner stated, “Congratulations to LBJ….104% index – #1 in the county!”  The students presented the banner to LBJ principal, Mr. Ron Combs.  It will hang proudly in the school hallway.
